Another beautiful place we visited in Taiwan this weekend, Jiufen. I think I am becoming numb to the greenery and will be shocked when I come home to the desert. Things have been good in Taiwan, the countdown is on and we have less than two weeks left. I have mixed feelings about returning home. I am excited to be back in my own bed with American food not far from reach but I will miss a lot about this little island. I will miss the worry-free life I've been living the past 2.5 months. I will miss their AMAZING fruit! I will miss the people. But enough about that, lets talk about the weekend....
We went to a little town on the top of a hill called Jiufen. It took an hour bus ride but it had quite the view. But they did lack one thing: food. We got there starving but the only food in sight are below. I think you can feel my pain. There was no way I was eating squid on a stick, stinky tofu, or unflavored snails. We did find some cool hidden spots like a little stairway that lead to a different part of town. After we got back home, we hit up a brick oven pizza place and it was just what I needed. I have been trying to limit the amount of American food I eat because I want to be as Taiwanese as possible in these last weeks but sometimes I give in. One thing I am looking forward too is authentic mexican food!
So I have this idea, let me know what you think......One of Taiwan's delicacies is stinky tofu. I will dedicate a whole post to it after I get a picture but anways, it smells really bad. When I say really bad, I mean you want to die when you smell it. I haven't gotten used to it but it seems to find me whenever we go to the night markets or even when we are walking down the street. There are no words to describe its horrendous smell but I want to share it with all of you. My plan is to bring some home so then everyone can understand what I mean when I say it's stinky tofu. I need ideas as to how I can bring it home without getting everything I own smelling like it too. Does anyone know if there is tupperware that is completely airtight, where no smells can leak out. Let me know if you do.
Enjoy the pictures. I am having fun.
